So, I'm car shopping for the wife today, and got distracted by project car possibilities for myself.

Option 1 - a 1979 Euro 635CSi, Le Mans Blue. Needs work, runs and drives but 1 cylinder isn't firing. $1500 obo...

Option 2 - Non running, 1-owner Mk1 GTI, 89000 miles, ran when parked 5 years ago. $1400 obo. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Option 3 - $700 for a 1983 GTI, motor running but not installed, no interior except front seats. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

All within about 2 hours of driving... SOMEBODY STOP ME.

Those early 6ers are so pretty.

for a pure project, I'd go with the $700 '86, purely for how cheap it is, as long as you have the space, time, patience, and don't need to rely on having it working ever.

That BMW is NP. Save it!

Right? Easily one of the most gorgeous BMWs ever built, I think. Especially in Euro-spec.

Hah, I have most of those things. I drive a 2013 GTI at present, so it'd be pretty awesome to have the two of them running together.

I'm trying! I don't really have any money for that until I find a decent car for my wife, but I'm working on making it happen. We'll see! It's been for sale for a while, so there's hope.

I avoid GTis because there's been at least twenty years of people driving a car that says GTi right on the steering wheel. That encourages abuse.

When it comes to an older car, stick with what you're familiar with.

I'd go with option 2. Looks to be in better condition than Option 3 and one owner less than 100,000 miles is pretty sweet.

Not a bad price on Option 1 though either. Very different cars though, depends on what you're really looking for.

If that Csi is as rust free as it looks that is your best option. Love an A1 GTI but the Bimmer is a much more substantial car. Sounds like the least work too

Hah, that'd be Jeeps. I'd love to get into some old German machines, though, and I have some friends who can probably help me.

I kind of want all of them, but the CSi is by far the sexiest.

I may go look at it; he's only an hour away, and no one else seems interested so far. Plus, Le Mans blue...mmf.
